2018 Highlights & ’19 Updates

35th Anniversary at the Lodge

Gale & I started off last spring talking about what we were going to do to celebrate our 35thyear at Rainbow Point Lodge in 2019.  Trying to find some little things to make the summer a bit more special.  (Probably more for ourselves than anything)   Towards the end of the summer I counted the years again from the beginning and realized we were off by a year and this coming year is our 36th!  Oh my…but heck…That saved a lot of planning and expense for the 35thcelebration eh?  Lol.

So… what’s happened in 35 years?  Wow – we should write a book.   Back in 1984 we were two young broke people with little cash, a big dream, and luckily a very patient lady holding a camp mortgage who liked us!  Lol.   We chuckle remembering some of our 1stguests asking if our parents were around, thinking we were camp hands.   We lived in a very small house, and our office was in the front porch.  Gale continued to worked full time in Ear Falls to help get us on our feet.   After a few years our 8 cottages turned into 12, and the game room was built.  Then we bought our neighboring lodge and store which was on our entry road anyway, and that’s when Rainbow Camp turned into Rainbow Point Lodge.

36 years of building, renovating, improving and fixing, brought us to today.  We haven’t stopped building, renovating, improving and fixing and never will.  That’s how you know we are always invested in making your vacations the very best!  Our last major items were the construction of the log pavilion in 2017 and the new motors in 2018, and more and more smaller things continue all the time.    Camp life has been very hard work, but also some of the most rewarding work we could have imagined.  THANK-YOU all for making our lives so interesting, and allowing us to host your great vacations over the years!

Now to the stuff you are really interested in… How was 2018!

2018 was another busy one with many new guests and lots of returning clientele as well.   It was great fun to host some multi-generational family groups as always. Some of the parents in the groups were kids staying with us many years ago, so they all seem like our family to us too!

Family Reunion at Rainbow Point Lodge

Some memorable groups included:

  • The Urban family reunion with family from PA, IA, and CO.  Great new guests that we thoroughly enjoyed hosting.
  • The Pecard group of fathers, sons, relations and friends from AR, WI, MO, FL & more. All those Boy Scouts! (& Emma too!) Great kids who sure enjoyed their fishing trip
  • The Burmeister Family Reunion.  Those Wisconsin families know how to have fun!

Planning a big family gathering, wedding, or group meeting?   Give us a shout.   We might just have the perfect place for you!

The Weather and Lake Levels

Spring started off with average ice-out and temps.  Originally we thought it would be a late ice-out, but things warmed up quick and winds blew, so Mother Nature had it’s own plan.  The summer overall was decent for weather – not banner, but nice, and the last half saw beautiful temperatures with very little rain.  The lack of rain caused many forest fires and way below normal water levels in all lakes.   There were rocks on the lake we have never seen, and going down the river to access the other lakes became impossible.  As fall approached we finally got some much-needed rain and the water table came up quite a bit before freeze-up.

Amazing Fishing of 2018

2018 saw countless trophy fish in every species and lots of healthy stringers for supper and take-home.

I have to say that the big stories of the summer were the huge numbers of trophy walleye caught and released all summer long, and the endless jumbo perch bite.   Perrault Lake just doesn’t disappoint!    We also have to mention the huge crappies that were caught primarily mid May to the early June part of the year.  14 inchers and higher were not uncommon.  There was great fishing on all the other species as well.  Whatever you want to fish for, you will find amazing opportunities on Perrault Lake.

Great Staff Serving Our Guests

Great Staff at Rainbow Point Lodge to serve you
Bob & Gale with their RPL Staff 2018

The summer of 2018 saw some new staff faces here at the Lodge along with a few familiar ones. We want to thank our full time summer staff, Louise, Curtis, Oliver,  Janet & Kendall for their dedication and friendship during the summer.  They all did an amazing job, and all of the guests thoroughly appreciated their service & hospitality.   We also wanted to thank all of you for recognizing our staff’s hard work, either visible or behind the scenes with your gratuities at the end of the week.  These are often overlooked, but go a long way to helping them realize that what they do to make your stay more enjoyable really is appreciated.

What’s New?

Last year we introduced the new electric start 25 HP Yamaha outboards.   As expected, they were a big hit, being able to move a heavier load with more speed, plus be able to easily use the troll down feature on the tiller handle for slow fishing.

This coming spring we are renovating the boat fleet and installing new rug on all the floors.  Sounds like an easy process, but with the number of boats, it’s going to make this a big project.

Every year we are upgrading our cabin amenities so our guests see little & changes & additions that go a long way.

Fall Fishing & Specials for Spring & Fall

Linda fall fishing on Perrault Lake
Linda fall fishing on Perrault Lake

We have been seeing more and more anglers getting into the fall fishing on Perrault Lake.  Many guests in the fall are return summer folks and they are learning that the Sept-October bite can be awesome.  It’s a trade-off with colder weather up against great fishing and very few anglers.  We’ve extended special rates into the fall to make it easier to possibly afford a second trip or work it in with fall grouse and duck season (something to think about!)

Great savings on spring trips too.  Check out our website for details on rates and specials!

Sport Show Coming Up

We are going to be in Green Bay at the All Canada Show, January 17thto the 20th.  If you’re in the area stop by.  You may be able to WIN YOUR TRIP through the All Canada Show promotion.  Hope to see you there
